Police charge teenager for drunk driving wreck

It is no secret that a criminal record can impact the course of a person's life. This is especially true for young adults in Texas who have an untold number of opportunities before them, but who have been accused of committing a crime. A comprehensive defense plan is especially important for these young defendants, such as a teenager who was recently accused of a serious drunk driving violation

Police claim that a 17-year-old high school student caused a single-vehicle wreck that killed two of his classmates. The teen allegedly told police that he drank a bottle of wine before getting behind the wheel on the night of the wreck. Two of his friends -- both were 16-year-old girls -- joined him in the vehicle, although it is not clear if they had also been drinking.

At some point, he apparently lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a tree. Both of the passengers died in the wreck. Responding officers claimed that the teen's speech was slurred and that he smelled like alcohol. He was arrested and charged with two counts for intoxication manslaughter, although he may have received treatment for injuries at a hospital first, as he was wearing hospital scrubs when he posted bond.

The teen is currently under a court-ordered curfew that requires him to stay at home from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., although these hours may change when the new school semester starts. He is also prohibited from driving and must utilize an in-home Breathalyzer test. As his next court date approaches, he will likely work closely under the guidance of his counsel, which is a common approach for Texas defendants. Doing so can help those accused of drunk driving and related offenses reach the best possible conclusion to their criminal proceedings.
